If you’re struggling with getting a 170/170 in Quant, do the following:
- Theory: Go through every concept's video explanation and associated quizzes/sample-questions. The goal here isn't to try to get questions right, but to understand how to approach a question and the underlying concepts you're being tested on.
- Notes: It's important that you don't go through the Theory stage twice as it sucks up a lot of time watching those videos. So, if you encounter a new formula, theory, or area that requires memorisation (for example cube roots of the first 5 positive integers), make a note of it. Moving forward, these notes are your bible as they cater to your personalised weak areas. Study this sheet until there is nothing left to review/memorise.
- Question Bank: GregMat/Magoosh has about ~600 Quant questions. Do them all, down to the last one. Then, do the ones you got wrong. Repeat until there is no question left in the Question Bank that you can't crack. It's critical that you write down the reason behind why you got each question wrong. Ideally, a lack of conceptual understanding shouldn't make the list.
- ETS Official Material: Now, you are ready for ETS' official prep material. Pick up their Quant book, and at this stage you should be able to get each and every question correct. This step is just to prove to yourself that you're now more than capable of getting almost every math question right and have started to develop "number sense".
- Practise Tests & Mocks: Now you're ready for section specific practise tests and full-length mock tests. If you were thorough with steps 1 through 4, you should consistently score 165+ in Quant; with hopefully a perfect score in your final test.
